Member of The Month – Mark Klein
We admire Mark, a busy business owner, for balancing traveling for work, family, and being healthy. Not an easy task but he is proof it can be done!
Hard work isn’t a stranger to this Month’s Member of the Month, Mark Klein, president of three small corporations: Klein Design Inc., DerbyteesTV Productions Inc., and Wecrash Inc. He uses his hard work ethic both inside and outside of the gym. Mark joined the gym in November because his elliptical at home broke. He hadn’t set foot in a gym since high school and had no idea what to expect. His only concerns were if he would get his money’s worth and have time to come to the gym regularly? The answer to both of those questions turned out to be yes. Before joining Lacon Fitness and Tan, Mark lost 55 lbs and has since seen even more positive changes in his body and confidence. When it comes to strength and cardio he says he likes them both and spend about 30 minutes on each every time he comes to the gym. He jokingly said his favorite exercise is “12 oz curls” but really he is on a mission to shed what’s left of his belly and so he currently likes planks the best.
Amanda Barnett, owner of Lacon Fitness and Tan says, “One thing that impresses us most about Mark is he travels quite a bit for work and is still able to stay in shape.” When asked, how traveling has impacted his life in the past and currently Mark said, “Traveling for work takes a toll on anyone. Long days, thousands of miles, hotels, camping, junk food, and fast food. It’s fun at first. I now look for hotels with a gym. If not, I still try to get in a walk in the mornings. It doesn’t always happen, but I always pack gym clothes. I can still get in my planks no matter where I am at!”
Mark initially only joined Lacon Fitness and Tan for 1 month while his elliptical part was on order. After a couple of weeks, he said he “just fell in love with everything about LFT,” and went on to sign up for a full 12 months. In case you were wondering he said his “elliptical part is still in the box from being delivered 6 months ago, lol.” Seeing everyone’s progress at the gym, along with his own has been awesome. “We are all in this together. I have met some really great people that I never would have met.” Mark frequently get recognized on the board at the gym for coming in 16 times or more in a month. This is a challenge for him because he is generally gone for half of every month. This is something he told himself he was going to make every month no matter what.
As much as Mark wouldn’t mind dropping a little more weight his main priority is to look and feel good. When asked what advice he has for other gym members he kids and says, “take more gym selfies, lol” then adds “Find a schedule and stick with it. I am fortunate enough to be able to be “late” for work every day without getting fired, lol. There are nights I work late just so I don’t have to skip my workout in the morning.” Congratulations Mark! Keep up the good work!
|Lacon Fitness and Tan: Were there any reservations about getting started?
Mark: I joined the gym in November because my elliptical at home broke. I hadn’t set foot in a gym since high school. I had no idea what to expect.
LFT: Anything that held you back?
Mark: Yes. Would I get my money’s worth? Would I have time to come regularly?
LFT: What are some of the benefits both physically and mentally that you gained since working out?
Mark: I feel like I have so much more energy throughout the day. Although most of my weight loss happened in the year prior to joining LFT (lost 55 lbs.) I have seen very positive changes in my body. My confidence is high and my carb intake is low.
LFT: Cardio vs. Strength which is your favorite?
Mark: Both! I try to spend at least 30 minutes doing each every time I come to the gym….whether I feel like it or not….but, I have also recognized that rest days are important too!
LFT: What is your favorite exercise?
Mark: 12oz. curls (lol)
My current favorite: planks, I’m on a mission to shed what’s left of my belly.
LFT: What is your least favorite exercise?
Mark: Legs. I have had knee troubles since high school…I blame multiple dislocated knee caps in basketball.
LFT: When you aren’t working or at the gym, what do you like to do for fun?
Mark: Sports with my son, CJ. He is into hockey & baseball. We also have matching dirt bikes & snowmobiles to have fun with. I also love to cook. There are so many terrible low carb recipes out there, so I have taken it upon myself to develop my own.
LFT: What do you do for a living?
Mark: I am president of 3 small corporations: Klein Design Inc., DerbyteesTV Productions Inc., and Wecrash Inc. I am a graphic designer and entrepreneur to the core. I have developed hundreds of brands/logos (about a dozen that are my own) that are very successful in the marketplace local and worldwide. My junior year at Bradley I had a year-end project to develop a logo & a product. Enter, the Derbytees t-shirt. I sold under 1000 t-shirts my first year. Currently, we will sell tens of thousands. PS. I got an “A” on the project.
LFT: In the past how has your traveling impacted your life?
Mark: Travelling for work takes a toll on anyone. Long days, thousands of miles, hotels, camping, junk food, and fast food. It’s fun at first.
LFT: Now that you workout regularly when you are home has your habits on the road changed?
Mark: Yes. I look for hotels with a gym. If not, I still try to get in a walk in the mornings. It doesn’t always happen, but I always pack gym clothes. I can still get in my planks no matter where I am at!
LFT: What had motivated you to stick with your exercise routine for as long as you have?
Mark: I initially only joined for 1 month while my elliptical part was on order. After a couple of weeks, I just fell in love with everything about LFT. I signed up for a full 12 months. PS. My elliptical part is still in the box from being delivered 6 months ago, lol.
Seeing everyone’s progress at the gym, along with my own has been awesome. We are all in this together. I have met some really great people that I never would have met.
Oh, and that 16x board. It’s a challenge for me because I am generally gone for half of every month. So, I literally have to go to the gym every day I am home or I won’t make it on the 16x board. This is something I told myself I was going to make every month no matter what.
LFT: What is your favorite thing about Lacon Fitness and Tan?
Mark: What’s not to love? There’s so much to gain and so much to lose all that the same time.
LFT: What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
Mark: Hmmm. I can’t give away all my secrets. Lol
LFT: What is your favorite “cheat food”?
Mark: Can I have two? Pizza and tacos. Mmmm, carbs!
LFT: How do you feel about your fitness journey ahead? Any goals that you would still like to achieve?
Mark: I would love to see if I can drop close to 200lb. I honestly don’t care a whole lot about weight, as long as I look and feel good. I’ve plateaued my weight for a few months (I blame my traveling), but my body is still changing, so I am happy with that.
LFT: What advice do you have for other gym members?
Mark: Take more gym selfies, lol. Find a schedule and stick with it. I am fortunate enough to be able to be “late” for work every day without getting fired, lol. There are nights I work late just so I don’t have to skip my workout in the morning.
