Member of The Month – Lauren Schlindwein
Lauren is a busy mother of two and a wife who also works full time. Often after her busy day, she tucks her kids into bed and laces up her gym shoes to come to the gym. She puts in the hard work and it shows in her success.
Lauren joined the gym less than a year ago but she didn’t really get serious about her health and fitness until about three months ago when she started Lacon Fitness and Tan’s 6 Week Challenge. She is able to balance family, work, and exercise with her amazing support system. Her husband doesn’t blink an eye when she puts her gym shoes on because he knows how important this journey is for her. Every couple of weeks she has an early personal training session and her fantastic friend who also watches the girls for her while she is at work will go above and beyond for her by watching the girls early on those mornings.
When asked if she had any reservations about getting started she said, “Before I’d make so many excuses about why I couldn’t get to the gym, or why it was okay to eat not-so-great (I’d make up for it tomorrow — the same old excuse)”. Lauren used to love running and has recently gotten back into. Over Memorial Day weekend she completed her first 5k and plans to do three more this summer! She also will be participating in the Marshall County to Peoria St. Jude Run and hopes to complete a Tough Mudder with her brother in the near future.
When asked what some of the benefits she has gained from working out Lauren said, “I can say at least 100 times over I have more confidence now than I did before I started this journey. I didn’t know I could push myself any further than where I was, but I keep proving myself wrong – I can do more, I will do more. Physically, I am down 30 pounds. That’s huge alone – but honestly, that’s not what I am most excited about. I have more energy, I feel better getting out of bed every morning, I play for hours on end with my two daughters where 30 pounds ago — I couldn’t make it down the street without getting winded”.
Lauren’s success has also inspired others to get healthy and start exercising. Her advice to others is, “Push yourself and keep showing up. If you feel like tossing in the towel – push a little harder. You will be surprised just how much your body can take – mentally and physically!” Lauren has proved it is possible to do more than you think you can, if all you do is try. Congratulations Lauren! This title of Member of the Month is well deserved!
LFT: Cardio vs. Strength which is your favorite?
Lauren: Far and away – Cardio! It was my favorite many years ago – I’ve finally gotten back to loving it!
LFT: What is your favorite exercise?
Lauren: Running is probably my favorite. Elliptical is a close second.
LFT: What is your least favorite exercise?
Lauren: Push-ups and all those exercises that include pushups…
LFT: When you aren’t working or at the gym, what do you like to do for fun?
Lauren: When I’m not working or at the gym my spare time gets wrapped up in mom life. I keep extra busy with my two girls. Stella is 6 and Nova is 18 months and there is no rest time for either of them. We like to spend most of our time outdoors, we go to the pool, park and everywhere in between. We love to have BBQ’s at our house where all of our family and friends can come over. I love to cook, bake and grill and when I’m lucky enough to find a spare minute or two on my own after my husband and girls go to sleep, I find myself lost in a book.
LFT: What is your favorite thing about Lacon Fitness and Tan?
Lauren: It feels like a family. Amanda (the owner) does an outstanding job making introductions. Everyone is supportive of each others personal journey. I’ve never once felt silly or intimidated. The LFT Family really makes a person feel empowered.
LFT: What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
Lauren: I’m a certified PAC Trainer. PAC stands for Positive Approach to Care which is a care program aimed at bettering the lives of those living with dementia.
LFT: What is your favorite “cheat food”?
