Member of the Month Joy Weide
Joy is tough. She is a mailwoman so she logs a lot of miles on her feet but that doesn’t stop her from working out. Check out what motivates her and what advice she gives to others.
Lacon Fitness and Tan: How long have you been working out and how did you get into it?
Joy: I have ran off and on for about 20 years. My mom used to do 5ks and then I started. I kept doing them when my son was younger and wanted to do them. I joined the gym in March, 2014 when I wanted to do strength training for the half marathon I was training for. They also just so happen to be doing a half marathon training and I signed up for it and I believe it really helped.
LFT: I see you in here a lot! What motivates you to workout so often?
Joy: What really motivates me is signing up for classes. I look forward to going to them and have made a lot of friends through them. All the trainers are so thorough to make sure you are doing everything properly. I also usually sign up for most of the different challenges.
LFT: Cardio vs. Strength which is your favorite?
Joy: Cardio vs strength is a tough one because I really like the free weights but I also like to do 5 and 10ks.
LFT: What is your favorite race?
Joy: My favorite race is a toss up between the Canal Connection and the Turkey Trot. I like the Canal Connection because it is in early November and sometimes it is hot out but other times you might be running in the snow. The scenery on the Canal is so pretty that it doesn’t even seem like it is a 10k. My other favorite is the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning. I really like this one because it is a tradition. My niece and I have ran this race for probably 17 years. It is a fun race with a DJ and lots of give always. Plus you get a run in before eating all day!
LFT: What is your favorite exercise?
Joy: I really like flipping tires. Just ask Diane!
LFT: What is your least favorite exercise?
Joy: My least favorite thing to do is hill and speed training.
LFT: When you aren’t working or at the gym, what do you like to do for fun?
Joy: I really enjoy baking especially making up Christmas platters.
LFT: What is your favorite thing about Lacon Fitness and Tan?
Joy: I know a lot of people say this but it’s true I have met so many people and made many friendships that carry on outside of the gym also. The trainers make you feel so welcomed and are so knowledgeable.
LFT: What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
Joy: If I didn’t set an alarm I could sleep until 10 or 11 AM
LFT: What is your favorite “cheat food”?
Joy: Chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate
LFT: What advice do you have for other gym members?
Joy: When I first joined the gym I was really nervous to do the classes but don’t be because everyone makes you feel so welcomed and they are such a good workout.
