Member of the Month – Brandon Lou
In only two months, Brandon was able to lose 30lbs through changing his eating habits and being dedicated at the gym. Brandon has continued to hit goals through weight lifting. Besides crushing it at the gym, Brandon is always friendly and encouraging people to do their best; leading by example. Great job Brandon!
Lacon Fitness and Tan: How long have you been working out and how did you get into it?
Brandon: Roughly two months ago I got back into it to start losing weight and now has become a daily routine for me. I have worked out off and on for years, but this is the first time I’ve gotten this into it.
LFT: You recently lost quite a bit of weight. How did you do it?
Brandon: I’ve lost nearly 30lbs. I’ve hit a wall at my weight loss but that weight is at a standstill because I know I am gaining muscle in return. That’s why I mention not to focus on the scale at all during this phase. I’d like to think my cardio plays a big factor but my diet has an even bigger role in my weight loss. I completely went cold turkey on soda, candy, any sort of junk food with the one day a week cheat day. You just have to stick with the diet, I’m going on 2 months now and I don’t plan on looking back. Dieting can be fun, you just have to make it fun with your meals.
LFT: You are a dedicated gym member, how do you make it in so often?
Brandon: I don’t feel right if I don’t make it in, it has become a part of my schedule now to workout before I go to work. It makes me motivated for my entire day, especially since I work second shift.
LFT: When you come to the gym do you have your own routine?
Brandon: I have a day by day routine I follow week by week with minor changes made weekly.
LFT: You have two small kids, do you have any advice for parents who struggle to find the time to workout?
Brandon: It has been a struggle not seeing the kids when I go to the gym, but it keeps me motivated to better myself and try to stay as healthy as possible so I can remain healthy and give my kids the best life possible.
LFT: Cardio vs. Strength, which is your favorite?
Brandon: Cardio is my least favorite thing but that’s only because I’m still overweight which obviously doesn’t help but I still make sure to get my cardio in every single day I’m in the gym.
LFT: What is your favorite exercise?
Brandon: My favorite exercise is deadlift. It has always been my strongest lift and the most fun for me.
LFT: What is your least favorite exercise?
Brandon: My least favorite simply because it’s my worst lift is bench press. I have a very bad shoulder problem (will explain below).
LFT: When you aren’t working or at the gym, what do you like to do for fun?
Brandon: I play with my kids, since it’s cold outside I’m pretty limited but once summer hits, me and my 3 year old will be playing basketball on a regular basis.
LFT: What is your favorite thing about Lacon Fitness and Tan?
Brandon: It’s a tie between the location and the people. Everyone is so nice and friendly and it really helps living in Henry that there is a gym so close by.
LFT: What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?
Brandon: I have had 5 broken right collar bones and had a major left shoulder surgery when I was 14 which prevented me from working out or playing any sports growing up. (This is the reason bench is my least favorite lift.)
LFT: What advice do you have for other gym members?
Brandon: Whatever your at the gym for, whether it’s dieting, just trying to stay in shape or trying to gain muscle, do not give up. I have seen and heard so many people expecting to see results rapidly and not getting that, which leads them to give up. Keep pushing yourself, results will come slowly but surely and in the end when you finally have hit your goal it will all be worth it. I’m still nowhere near my goal but I see the slow progress and I know it will happen with me.
